"Now you have a Jack Russell Puppy"
What are you going to do with it?
This page will give you my Thoughts and Ideas on Training and Facts
about Shorty Irish Jack Russell's to make your Jack the best it can be.
The Jack Russell Story
A man by the name of Parson John Russell of Great Britain in the 1800's
selective bred special dog breeds to come up with the Jack Russell Terrier. His aim was to create a small dog the size of a Fox to go into fox holes and places to where the fox would go to retreat from the hounds and horses. He would then chase the fox out so the Fox Hunt could continue.
The Jack needed to be the same size as the fox, with the same leg height, to compete with a fox.
Every so often there would be a short leg puppy born. These little guys could not compete with a fox like the longer leg Parson Jack Russell could on a Hunt. But they could proficiently catch and be the little rater dogs around the barns, among other things. So alas the short leg Jack Russell Terrier was born.
This little dog became the Irish Jack Russell that would be the favorite Rater dog in Ireland. They soon became an icon in Ireland. And from there other countries became interested in their abilities. And so on and so on!

Each Jack Russell has its own Talent, just like children have different personality.
Jack Russell's also have different physical appearance. Such as Ears
There are four different types of ears set for Pet Quality the Short Leg Jack Russell
1) Small V shape close to head
2) Half perk
3) Perk
4) Both ears up
Some Jacks are ambidextrous with their ears. They will put them up or down, depending on their mood.

Different = Ears - Coats - Size
Legs
of a Short Leg Jack Russell or a Irish Short Leg Irish Jack
When I started breeding Jacks, 30 yrs. ago, most of the short leg Jack's had bowed legs & pigeon toes. This is because the bone in the leg is shorter than the Muscle, this causes the muscle to bunch up. That is one of the differences in the short and the standard leg Jacks. If the bones in the leg were a little longer it would be a regular Jack. Like everything else, you can breed short legs in, you can breed short legs out. It really is in the Breeding that counts.

A little toe out

Bench & Toe out

Good leg & toe
Ears
Jack Russells can have different ear sets also.
This also is in the genes. Breeders can breed in or out what they want.

Sometimes their ear set depends on their mood.
That is why Breeders do not grantee the Ear Set - their leg Leight - their size - weight.
The most important things is their Health - Personality, and how much you like the Breeder.
Remember you will deal with the Breeder the rest of your Jack Russell Terriers life.

"What is a Puppy Mill"
Buy Beware!!!
This is like going out to rescue a puppy and take on the Medical Bills that come from the abuse that it's Mom and Dad had to endure, witch caused them to have bad genes to pass on to their puppies
The only way we can stop the cruelty that All of these Sweet Babies go through is.
Do not buy from people or a person, that you question their methods of having the puppies or where they came from.
A Puppy Mill is a place that will have several to lots of different kinds of dogs that they will mass produce puppies. The Breeder dogs are keep in cages that are in deplorable conditions. They never have a chance to be a happy puppy before turning into a breeding dog. If you want to do the right thing, contact the authorities if you suspect people that might have this going on.
We the people need to get involved in the Animal Abuse in the US. And when you can, Please Donate to the health and well fair Organization's. They really need our time and our donations.
I have worked with abused animals for 50 yrs. But not on this scale. I think that I could hurt someone that could abuse like this.

"What is a Puppy Broker"
A Puppy Broker is a person or people who buy puppies as cheap as possible to resell for profit.
You will find Puppy Brokers
On the internet: They will provide a Web-Site for people to place their puppy pictures and a short add about the puppy to sell their puppies at a cheap or at a low Price. You will not learn much about the breeder.
Brokers will also buy puppies from Other Country Breeders and sell them for high $ in this Country.
Be extra careful with this kinds of Jack Russell Broker.
I have always had a saying between a Reputable breeder, a Mediocre breeder or a Bad breeder - is like Buying a dress from K-Mart or one from Saks Fifth Ave.
If you think you cannot spend your money on a Reputable Breeder, then go with the Mediocre Breeder. But check them out as well. I call this type of Breeder a Hobby Breeder.
Pet Shops are also Puppy Brokers
As long as the puppies have AKC papers they will charge you big time for a puppy.
Once you leave the Store, you will leave with their Polices.
Buyer Beware!!
"What is a Hobby Breeder"
Most of the time you will find that they have good quality dogs. They usually have 2 to 10 dogs that they breed because they enjoy having Breed. Their pups are good quality, and their dogs and puppies are well taken care of. Most are in house Hobby Breeders.
Make sure that their dogs are in good shape. This means they get a good Vet, good living space, Very Good Food (Your immune system) If not good Food it means (bad immune system)
"What is a Reputable Breeder"
Last but not least is the Reputable and responsible "Professional Breeder"
This is a full-time kennel, usually has 1 special Breed that they breed All Year Round.
Things to look for in a Professional Breeder
